Discussion series on young Slovenian architecture at the HDA Graz
Slovenia, terra incognita. Two years after EU enlargement, from an Austrian view Slovenia is still rather unknown – also in terms of architecture. The SLO series of events is therefore fully dedicated to Austria’s southernmost neighbouring country with its very lively and equally productive young architectural scene.
SLO } { discussions presents representatives of the younger Slovenian generation of architects, who will be discussing topical issues of Slovenian architecture with internationally renowned architectural critics and the audience at HDA.
SLO} { exhibition complements the discussion series with the exhibition “NEXT TO YOU: Young Maribor Architecture” at HDA.
SLO } { interviews is a comprehensive portrait of the guests of the discussion series at www.gat.st, complemented by an architectural archive on Slovenian architecture at www.nextroom.at.

Young Slovenian Architecture: A cultural import or critical regionalism? [working title]
A generation of young architects who are at the centre of Slovenian architectural production today have taken up a decisively international position not least as a result of the numerous post graduate studies courses they have completed abroad. This focus has brought response with roughly equal portions of praise and criticism in Slovenia. The strictures have targeted in on uncritical cultural imports and the relinquishment of the national identity. In response a number of protagonists have self consciously set themselves on the path of training at home with the continuation of local building traditions. Is this the inception of a new critical regionalism?
